Important Notes on Quality

Sheepskin boots come in a wide range of qualities, especially in New Zealand and Australia (and with Chinese made boots, you won't be happy). Because of the sales growth of sheepskin boots worldwide, there are many cheaper copy-cat boots now available using second grade sheepskin, inferior and dangerous Polyurethane plastic soles, and cost cutting shortcuts in materials and workmanship.

Sheepskin Boots with Polyurethane soles: used by those making cheap imitations of our boots, are dangerous when wet as they are so slippery, they are a shiny plastic that looks cheap and will crack and break. Some boots, particularly chinese made, have a creamy (and slippery) slab of EVA plastic under them. These are even worse. Our sheepskin boots have pure rubber soles and have the very best traction available and will last for many years.

Chinese made sheepskin boots: you will not be happy with these, there is very little quality control in workmanship or materials - and you will need to replace them before a single season. The sheepskins used in China are second grade as they have to buy them from New Zealand or Australia anyway, and they never pay for the best (Note ugg branded boots come from China)

See below for the 6 layer comfort system built into all of our boots. The heel is also reinforced so it will stay upright and straight unlike cheaper models. Ask for a pure rubber sole which is the best non slip sole available (and the most comfortable being springy and flexible).

Sheepskin boots stand about 10 inches high - up to mid calf. Our high-top sheepskin boots stand about 15 inches high and come up to just under your knees (depending on the size of the boot). Note that boots are about 15 inches around the top.

Our sheepskin boots are made with double faced shearling sheepskin for maximum effect and comfort. On the outside is soft, supple suede leather and the inside is the cosy sheepskin fleece.

Sheepskin Boots - Construction

Sheepskin boots from New Zealand Nature Co are made with 5/8 inch double faced shearling sheepskin from fine and supple New Zealand shearling sheepskin. Double face means the supple suede leather is on the outside and creamy fleece is on the inside.

We supply the only sheepskin boots with pure rubber soles for positive traction on snow and ice and "floating on the clouds" comfort. Our boots have a rubber sole that is lightweight yet provides traction in wet, snow and slippery conditions. A heat reflective film is inserted above the sole to retain heat. The flexible rubber sole is a mark of quality - many brands of sheepskin boot have a hard slab of EVA plastic on the bottom, which can cause you to slip, besides being hard and inflexible.

Each sheepskin boot has a removable inner sole made with a rubber molded bootbed and lambskin. These can be removed to dry or replaced easily.

The soft wool fibres of natural sheepskin act as a natural insulator to keep your feet warm and comfortable. Sheepskin is breathable, wicking moisture away keeping your feet dry and cosy.

Sheepskin Boots - Waterproofing

Sheepskin boots are naturally water resistant. They are made in New Zealand where we get a lot of rainfall and understand about getting wet. In most cases you will not need more protection from the wet. If you do, it's very simple - use a readily available silicon spray such as Scotch Guard. We will have our own brand of protection available soon in our online shop.

You can wear your sheepskin boots with or without socks. Please wear wool socks though, like our Milford Merino Wool Socks. Woolen socks will not effect the breathability of your sheepskin boots.

Sheepskin Boots - cleaning

To wash your sheepskin boots, use a mild soap and a brush or cloth. Rinse them off and keep them inside away from the heat while they dry. Give them a good hard brushing when they're dry to bring back the natural suede finish.

For cleaning your sheepskin boots, jackets and our other slippers, we provide a Suede Eraser. The Suede Eraser is ideal for non-oily stains, dirt, water marks, and even pen marks. These are inexpensive and cost only a few dollars and can be used for all non-pigmented suede and nubuck leathers.

Sheepskin Boots - sizing

If you are a half size - order the size smaller - this is especially so for womens sizes. For men, if you have wide feet, you can go a size up. We get more returns from boots being too big than too small.

All sheepskin boots will feel snug and almost too tight to start with. Width is never a problem as they will eventually stretch out. The length will not stretch much, so if your toe touches the end hard, you will have to return them. Our boots are a natural and breathable leather product that will stretch over a couple of days. If you know your shoe size and tell us, there should be no problem fitting your boots. If in doubt - the Euro sizes are the most accurate - all sports shoes have Euro sizes.

If after a year of use they seem a bit loose, don't worry, you can add another insole to tighten them up.

Our sheepskin boots only come in whole number sizes not half sizes. Women's Boots - order the smaller size - for instance if you are size 8 1/2 - order the size 8. Men's sizes - if you have a wide foot best to order the larger size, but the boots are sized generously. Most size issues are because the boots are too large.

If you are from the USA look up to the top of your screen and make sure you are in the USA shop where all prices are in US dollars and postage is included in the price. Europe sizes are likewise in the Euro shop.

Our sheepskin boots are made by Canterbury Sheepskin Company. They have been making quality boots for over 30 years. They are the original makers of sheepskin ugg boots in New Zealand. The sole is a genuine rubber non marking sole with an excellent grip. The sheepskin boots have a "leatherboard" runner with a reflective silver film bonded onto it to reflect body heat in extreme cold. The Canterbury Sheepskin system has a molded footbed with a sheepskin insole glued to it.
